Since Journals in Deviantart are not strictly for art-related topics (and this is not a rant
), I wanted to share some of my favorite albums from this finishing 2013.
When I get asked what kind or style of music I like to listen to... I always say that I listen to ANYTHING
, but taking a look at this list might give you a clue of what kind of music I like to listen to the most. Which I have no idea how to describe it, since to me, it's a little bit of this and a little bit of that
In no particular order here are my top 11 albums from 2013:
Fall Out Boy - Save Rock and Roll
Maybe the best album of the year for me personally. FOB have a special place in my heart, they are the most impressive musicians when it comes to blend all of their musical influences into new and refreshing music Listen to "Just One Yesterday"
The Bronx - IV
You can't listen to this album without following the beat with your head/hands, pure hardcore punk that gets you moving! Listen to "Pilot Light"
Queens of the Stone Age - Like Clockwork
An album full of amazing songs one after the other, I recommend for full experience, to watch the animated music videos created by the British artist Boneface (www.boneface.co.uk/
) starting with "I Appear Missing"
and finishing with "... Like Clockwork" all up in their Youtube channel.Listen to "My God is the Sun"
Kanye West - Yeezus
You can love him, you can hate him, but Kanye did such an amazing work with this album, despite the fact that he might live in his own head, creative stuff happen there. Listen to "Blood on the Leaves"
Bring Me The Horizon - Sempiternal
Before "Sempiternal" I really wasn't into BMTH, not my cup of tea to be honest. But after checking out this album I found the sound of a very solid and strong band. I got hooked instantly and had to check the rest of their work. I wasn't disappointed u_u Listen to "Can You Feel My Heart"
Nine Inch Nails - Hesitation Marks
The most groove I've listened in NIN since their old albums! Nine Inch Nails is one of my favorite bands ever, so I'm totally biased when I say their music is perfect. Also check out their mind-blowing-futuristic-music-laser-spectacle performance Listen to "disappointed"
Sleeping with Sirens - Feel
Another album that got me into a band that I never listened before. This album is just like the title, so full of feels! and pure emotional post-hardcore energy.
(so hard to pick just one song from the album) Listen to "Alone" Listen to "I'll take you there"
Placebo - Loud Like Love
I've been a fan of Placebo for a loooong time and this band never disappoints me! The guys from Placebo always had a very defined vision of their music as a complete work of art, they even made the first Youtube Livestream for an album release ever, no need to say was amazing and completely interactive. Plus, who doesn't like a song about having too many friends on Facebook? Listen to "Too Many Friends"
Arade Fire - Reflektor
Another band that presented their album in a very creative and innovative way, including street art, messages via twitter, pictures on instagram, and my favorite, a 20 minutes performance/video directed by Roman Coppola with hilarious cameos from people like Bono, James Franco and Michael Cera (talking in spanish), check it out hereListen to "Afterlife"
Ghost - Infestissumam
This one was one of the last albums I've been so hooked with! I've heard and read about this band Ghost before, but never actually listen to their music (I think the reason was that I prejudge them based on the look of the band on stage, that I totally understand now). But what pushed me into listening Infestissumam
was their covers EP with songs from ABBA (yeah that band your mum/grandma likes ), Depeche Mode, and my favorite Roky Erickson’s “If You Have Ghosts
” recorded them all with Dave Grohl (my husband
) at drums. Listen to "Ghuleh / Zombie Queen"
David Bowie - The Next Day
It's David Bowie's new album after 10 years, do I need to say any more?
good.Listen to "Where are we now?"
So what are your favorite Albums/Bands from 2013?
